CQC HOMEPAGE HEADER

Modern CQC is not a martial art…
it is martial science

The MCQC  system is suitable for both novices and experienced martial artists alike. Most martial arts will teach you valuable skills for dealing with a fair fight. But as the saying goes “if you are in a fair fight your tactics suck”. If you are a martial artist or a practitioner in another combative system we value that experience and ask you not to throw anything away. Rather, where possible adapt and utilise your existing skills to the MCQC syllabus to better prepare yourself and your students to deal with the less familiar ‘unfair fight’, ‘face off’ or ‘ambush’ which exists outside the dojo.

The complexities of dealing with real life violence can seem daunting and overwhelming, particularly for novices. The solution for dealing with a complex situation is to learn an operationally proven and effective system which has been simplified as much as possible.

“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler”                                                                                                  Albert Einstein

The 7-4-7 system is a unique drills based programme designed to reduce training time, maximise your tactical options and minimise mental processing. This is achieved by conditioning the appropriate responses to each of the 7 relative positions we will find ourselves in when engaged in physical conflict. The response to each relative position is learnt in the natural order of risk. Starting with the most dangerous position (face to face in close contact) to the least dangerous position (behind the opponent). The system is based on building blocks which will naturally progress you from novice to expert. The first 4 skillsets make up the MCQC level 1 syllabus…

SKILLSET 1: FIRST RESPONSE PROTOCOLS

The first response protocols provide you with an effective; easy to learn ‘bash and dash’ response for each of the 7 relative positions. This skillset can be taught and conditioned in a matter of hours to provide you with a simple, functional; all round self defence system. The first response protocols and then the more refined I.A. drills are designed to teach an autonomic response to an immediate threat.

SKILLSET 2: IMMEDIATE ACTION DRILLS

Once the first response protocols have been mastered, they can then be turbo charged and developed into the Immediate Action (I.A.) drills. This skillset is designed to provide an autonomic response to danger. Research has shown that when training to remember, it is best to chunk information into 3 bite size chunks. Each I.A. drill consists of 3 interlinked techniques which all work in isolation, but when combined leaves you standing and the opponent stunned and disabled (both mentally and physically) on the floor. This places you in the best position to escape, control or neutralise the threat.

The I.A. drill is designed to be conditioned through repeated practice and operant conditioning methodology. Each drill can be visualised, practised alone, used as a warm up and/or practised in class with a partner.

“I fear not the man who has practised 10,000 kicks once,

…but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times”                                                                                                      Bruce Lee

SKILLSET 3: FAILURE DRILLS

The failure drill are again designed to provide an immediate and autonomous response should your I.A. drill fail. As with the I.A. drills, the failure drills are designed to be conditioned through repeated practice and operant conditioning methodology. Each drill can be visualised, practised alone, used as a warm up and/or practised in class with a partner.

SKILLSET 4: SECONDARY RESPONSE OPTIONS
The secondary response options are not designed to be autonomic and therefore do not need to be drilled and conditioned in the same way as the previous three skillsets. The secondary responses will increase your range of tactical options and are designed to be applied when you are under less pressure and you have sufficient mental bandwidth to apply those skills at the conscious level. These options are therefore a bonus, whilst the autonomic response options are a critical necessity.

Once we have fully conditioned the I.A. and Failure drills we are ready to learn the secondary response options together with the more advanced techniques…

ADVANCED SKILLS

The advanced syllabus consists of skillsets 5 – 8 and are taught using a combination of flow drills and pressure drills:

SKILLSET 5: CONTROL SKILLS

SKILLSET 6: GROUND SURVIVAL

SKILLSET 7: EDGED AND BLUNT WEAPONS

SKILSET 8: FIREARMS

> WHAT ARE THE ROOTS OF MODERN CQC

Courses, events, & seminars

There will be regular events, workshops and seminars planned throughout the year which will help MCQC to develop and grow. These events help develop a sense of community and keeps everyone updated and informed. It also allows for the sharing of ideas and provides a gateway for new members.

There will also be at least two professionally conducted trainers courses run per year by highly qualified and experienced trainers and assessors.  This will include access to full support, training resources and free post training support should you wish to set up your own club.

for more information please visit the events page or complete the contact form.
